Heller Resource Center

Twenty five years ago, for the child who sat alone in a classroom, deemed hopeless by his peers and rejected by his teachers, hope was born.  The Heller Resource Center was founded. It has become a place where dreams blossom into reality, while new heights in academic excellence continually astonish the teachers, the parents and, best of all, the children themselves.

For two and a half decades, sterling educators and mental health professionals at the Heller Resource Center have used sophisticated testing methods  and highly particularized computer programs and software to pinpoint the exact academic needs of every challenged student in both Limudei Kodesh and Secular Studies, each student is filled with the love of learning and the knowledge and confidence that they, too, can succeed.

While the Heller Resource Center soars ahead of its time with the latest technical equipment, the educational staff that utilizes them is even more impressive.   They are remarkably attuned to the needs of each child. Because of the small size of the groups and the high teacher-pupil ratio, the professionals at the Heller Resource Center are able to accommodate each child’s needs and ensure that he maintains the basic academic standards of his peers.  They use the same materials as the mainstream class, emphasize the same skills, read the same literature and develop the same writing skills.  In addition, diagnostic remediation is performed — as a child’s needs change, materials and methods are adjusted to meet those needs.

Some of the latest innovations at the Heller Resource Center include:

Waterford Early Reading Program™
The Waterford Early Reading Program™ is a comprehensive, research-based curriculum that teaches children how to read, write, and keyboard. It is one of the nation’s first research-based, technology-driven reform models in early reading instruction. Students become proficient in skills such as letter mastery, reading and listening development, controlled and natural language stories, complex spelling, basic writing skills, and comprehension strategies.

Waterford Early Math & Science Program
The Math and Science curriculum engages students in inquiries that are interesting and important. The curriculum promotes retention of mathematics and scientific information, by teaching students to observe, manipulate, and ask questions, while learning science concepts.
Each Waterford Program utilizes digital music, alluring graphics, and animation. It is an engaging and entertaining form of education, but most of all, it’s effective. Millions of children have enhanced learning while using the Waterford programs. The Heller Resource Center is proud to be among the cutting edge establishments that offer them.
The Heller resource Center’s Limudei Kodesh department is staffed with a group of Rebbes and Moros who are specially trained in teaching children the critical skills needed to read, write and comprehend Lashon Kodesh and thus all the fundamental texts needed to thrive as a student and as an successful member of their community.  Children who have the skills to grow in Torah and Mitzvos and understand the essence of the curriculum grow up with the confidence they need to be successful B’nei Torah.

For two decades, the Heller Resource Center has been the lifeline and springboard for children who may have been deemed as hopeless to now serve their communities as doctors, lawyers, educators and rabbonim. They are truly the Heller Resource Center’s crowning glory of student accomplishment, exemplifying the successful and unique combination of technology and educational excellence.
